Japanese Ginbari Cloisonné Ovid Posey Enamel Glowing Vase Depicting Angel Fish. This is a gorgeous vintage mid-century Japanese cloisonné vase featuring a traditional autumnal botanical subject, depicting a vibrant maple leaf (momiji) changing colors. The leaf transitions beautifully from blue and green hues into bright yellow and deep crimson-red tips at the top right. Autumn maple leaves are an iconic and universally loved symbol of Japanese art.
This vase uses a circular vignette window with a textured ginbari foil-backed background. The foil creates a crinkled, shimmering effect behind the translucent enamels, making the leaf look like it is floating or catching the light. The base enamel is a soft, pale celadon green, framed by the exact same matte-finish brass or nickel-alloy protective metal rims on the collar and foot. 3.75" tall x 3.5" wide x 1.5" top diameter x 1.75" bottom diameter. "Made in Japan" stamp on the metal rim.
Vintage and antique Japanese cloisonné enamel vase represents some of the finest achievements in decorative metalwork, reaching an artistic peak during the Meiji Golden Age. Characterized by incredibly intricate hand-laid wirework, vibrant translucent colors, and mirror-smooth glass finishes, these vases are highly prized by collectors worldwide. Technic: The base metal body of the vase (often copper or silver) was wrapped or stamped with an intricately textured, reflective silver foil.
Translucent enamels were then applied over the top, allowing light to bounce through the glass and create a shimmering, deep luminescence. An explicit English language stamp like "Made in Japan" means the vase was manufactured for export or distributed under foreign trade laws, placing its production timeline after 1921. It is in very good condition. The enamel surface is fully intact with no chips, cracks, or crazing. The mirror polish retains strong reflectivity across the entire body. The silver rim and base show no damage, no dents, deformation, or tarnish requiring treatment. This item is coming from a Smoke-Free Pet Free Home.
