It is a plant that is full of interest : bright - red stems hold green foliage with red - veins, that develop from single, simple-lobed leaves into leaves that are palmately - divided with 3 to 5 lobes; then from June to October, eye - catching, shiny - red calyces open to reveal beautiful cream - white flowers with deep - red centres. The bright red calyx, given its cranberry flavour, is infused to make carcade drinks, as well as being used in making jam, jellies, syrup, wine, juices and spices. It makes quite a statement within any garden setting, but is especially perfect within flower border, Mediterranean - style gardens, tropical and subtropical gardens, cottage - style gardens, or as an accent or specimen plant.
